After surviving an attack in 1478 at Florence Cathedral by conspirators (who assassinated his brother Giuliano), supporters commissioned life-size wax images of Lorenzo in churches in thanksgiving for his survival. Verrocchio reportedly supervised the wax specialist Orsino Benintendi in making those sculptures.
