Unearthed from the underground palace of Leifeng Pagoda in Hangzhou in 2001, it is 68 cm high. The Buddha statue has a high meat bun, spiral hair, slender eyebrows, ears hanging down the shoulders, and three silkworm patterns on the neck. Wearing a double-collared hanging cassock, the hem is covered with a lotus seat. Inside is a monk’s branch, and a silk belt is tied in front of the chest. The left hand caresses the knee, the right hand casts the Dharma seal, and sits on the lotus platform in knotted lotus. Under the lotus pedestal, there are Panlong columns, double-layer Xumizuo and square beds. The coiled dragon goes up around the column, holding up the lotus seat, and the column is embedded in the Xumi seat. There are two flame-style pot doors on each side of Xumizuo. This statue is situated in my town’s Memorial Park. It is one of four that was donated to the park which honours the veterans and fallen soldiers originally from my town (Ballymena, Northern Ireland).
Along with the statues there is a plaque:
“These four statues were generously presented to The Borough of Ballymena by Mrs Ruth Wier. M.B.E. 1973.”
The model was created from 33 images I took on my Smartphone Camera. I stitched the images together with Photoscan and cleaned up the model in ZBrush and Maya.
