3D model of Ardrossan Castle during the 1st week of the Exploring Castle Hill Excavations of 2019. The model was captured with photos taken on two seperate days and with visitors and diggers milling about but Reality Capture software has filtered much of this noise out and blender was used to edit out any problem area’s.
Exploring Castle Hill is part of a Cultural Heritage and Archaeology Project being led by Northlight Heritage for Garnock Connections. The Project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic Environment Scotland. The alewife has been brewing ale for the household as they prepare for Sir Eustace and Lady Agnes’s return to Caerlaverock. Her ale is made using barley she bought from the monks at Sweetheart Abbey. She talks about Sweetheart and Lady Devorgilla and eludes to how it was named.
The alewife would brew and sell ale to the community. The quality of water at the time was so poor that it meant that ale was a safer bet to drink. As the ale went sour very quickly, the alewife would be continually brewing fresh batches to keep her customers happy. This meant that it was a way for women to add additional income to a household.
