Second university project, to create a floating island diorama Went for all assets having relatively low pollys to have a fuller, busy impression. My aim is to create a story by portraying a witch’s island of books, with her oragami birds and fish, aswell as her dragon Familiar. I tried to make most of the pages unique and included references to the dragon on a few of the books. Not too sure about the colouring, was intending to have far more pinks and turquoises to aid a magical feel but ended up rather brown. Willow trees are my favourite so went for a magical pink fantasy one. Struggled a lot with the composition of the island and in hind sight would like to move everything around, but overall semi-happy. Reupload, cause I added seagulls (very important) Made this floating island with a lighthouse in 5 days trying to be done by the end of the week. And I gotta say, this was a marathon. Were a lot of troubles with baking, making fine details. If I had more time I would probably did separate bakes, but not this time. So, about the model: it’s a handpainted lowpoly with baked map from a highpoly. Triangles count: 27,5K. I was going with anime style (Miyazaki movies) and for reference I used artworks of Jim Shore (“Benatrex - Shorelights”), you’ll notice the lighthouse that I recreated.
