West of Gate South Section 19/20: The West of Gate South of the Western High Gate of Medinet Habu. At some point near the end of the 20th Dynasty, a turbulent time of civil war in ancient Egypt, the temple precinct of Medinet Habu was invaded. At this time several large blocks from the upper courses of the Western High Gate were intentionally toppled and subsequently buried under rubble and debris. Apparently forgotten when the gate was later dismantled and its stone recycled, the blocks in this section and Section 20 were discovered during Hölscher’s initial survey. I uploaded the sword alone previously and planned to upload its sheath separately, but eventually decided put them together so it can have a complete showcase as a set. Both high res model and all the details made in Zbrush, painted the texture in substance painter. The animal on the sheath at first was just flat shapes with no details on it, and I thought I finished the model. Later on I looked at it again and again, eventually decided I should add more details and to make the animal figures more alive and to give them more characters, since this was a sword made for Paraoh’s battles, it just has to have that spirit. Painting the texture was another challenge since there are just so many details on the original antique. Made this piece with a heart of awe, and it was a great learning experience!
