I’ve been studying ancient egyptian culture for a story I’m writing and when I hit a wall I decided to create a staff to see if I could get inspired again. I based myself on Tutankhamun’s crook and flail and combined some iconic symbols from ancient egypt, like the djed, the ankh and the scarab . I also added Cleopatra’s name in egyptian hieroglyphs. An ancient Egyptian arched sistrum (musical percussion instrument similar to a rattle). The provenance is unknown as the piece was purchased in Luxor in 1908. It likely dates to the Late Period.
The sistrum is pierced twice on each side of the arch where the moving pieces would have been inserted. Below the arch, we see a wedjat eye above a nb-sign. Hathor’s head is flanked by two columns and bears her characteristic plaited wig. This example is unusual for the lack of a double headed Hathor, only one side bears Hathor’s face with the back of the sistrum featuring the sun disk and horns (Hathor’s symbol).
The inscription reads “Words spoken by Bastet-Iru-Di-Set”.

Unfortunately I could’t get full coverage because I coun’t get very close to the subject, maybe 20m the closest, I could’t get all the photos I wanted especially from the top. This was one of times I wish I had a drone (not sure if it’s even allowed to fly in that area anyway), so I tried my best with a 400mm lens handheld from any place I could walk around it.
I managed anyway to get comfortably 3x8K textures and normals in a relatively low poly model.
