Most flying car proposals are pure sci-fi or represent some sort of compromise, they lack the functionality of either the car or the airplane - usually because they are trying to be an all-in-one solution. My idea is to split the flying car into parts: the people part, the flying part, and the car part - each gets to be good at what it does without compromising too much. This new form of the Bentley “Flying Spur” is more akin to a service like NetJets than a car lease. You don’t buy the car, you own pod with the seats. When you want to go somewhere, the car part autonomously drives you to the most convenient pickup point, the flying part grabs the pod, you fly to your destination where another car is waiting to grab your pod and drive you to wherever you need to go. This little bird nursery was a project to further push my understanding and skills of the handpainted game art pipeline, from concept to having a finished model. In this case, I also wanted to explore how to blend different terrain textures into each other, and how to generate grass with a particle system instead of placing them all by hand like in my previous props. I’m happy it worked the way it did!
In order to get this on Sketchfab I even got some additional practice: Baking said ground textures onto the ground plane, and converting my grass particles into actual geometry. Merging those then ended up making my file twice the size - but “compressing” it brought it down again. Lots of mini-roadblocks, but here it is!

The Boeing Bird of Prey was a black project aircraft, intended to demonstrate stealth technology. It was developed by McDonnell Douglas and Boeing in the 1990s. The company provided $67 million of funding for the project it was a low-cost program compared to many other programs of similar scale. It developed technology and materials which would later be used on Boeing’s X-45 unmanned combat air vehicle. As an internal project, this aircraft was not given an X-plane designation. There are no public plans to make this a production aircraft. It is characterized as a technology demonstrator.
