It was quite a challenge to make this scene in less than a week while working a full-time job. Despite having to go to bed way too late every night, in order to finish it by the end of the week, I feel pretty good about the work I’ve done. Some might say it’s an interesting color choice for a guitar amp, and I would agree. To be honest it was a complete accident. I was experimenting with different finishes when stumbled upon a deep blue plastic material in my library which later became the base for material that made it to the render stage. The original idea was to make it orange as they usually are, but every time I compared the two my heart leaned more and more towards the blue one. Se here we are. Blue Orange amp. Scene made in 3DS Max using 3 Particle Flows of 3 different meshes : Grass, broadleaf cattail and a flower.
I did 2 different meshes for the grass, added a cut in the center to bend each grass in an opposite direction. This way it’s nearly impossible to see the faces from above.
In the Particle View, I used a data operator (Event) with Matrix operands and Quaternion rotation in order to align particles to the normals of a sphere. Very useful to scatter objects on an uneven surface.
