Turns out it’s not that hard to achieve an authentic handpainted look. I’ve done a ton of researching and studying, and I’ve found a style that seems to really work when creating 3d ghibli-style scenes using Substance Painter. These techniques can be applied to basically any project. I’m really looking forward to improving the process later on this month. It required a lot of subtle tweaks to get here, the process made me recognize how every small details (ex. color of the iris, form of eyelashes, size of the reflection in the eyes, etc) are important to determine the look and feel of a character.
