Usually, I stay away from challenges because I never have enough time to finish something and honestly, I feel a little intimidated by the awesome work of other artists. But it’s not all about winning, right? For Sketchfab’s Halloween Challenge I decided to finally get out of my comfort zone and do this little cute and spooky model that is based on Patri Balanovsky’s original concept art (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/mlKWY). With this being my second finished 3D model, I feel incredibly motivated to continue my journey of getting deeper into 3D modelling. This character model was part of a game project for my final course this spring. This character was the main character in our game “Jeniah”, and she was the one the players played as. Our game project was very inspired by Souls-games like Dark Souls and a little bit of Bloodborne, and so I did my best to try and get the rigth “feeling” for the characters.
For this one I had a sketched concept art of the upper-half of the body made by one of my teammates, but I had to edit the shoulderpads to fit the game more, so the ones in this final model are edited. The rest I came up with on my own. I had four days to make this character as well.
Base body modeled in Zbrush. Cloth in Marvelous Designer, armour, hairplanes, and retopologization in Maya. Textured in Substance Painter. This is a complete guide on how we created this stylized viking asset. We used a mix of Blender, Zbrush, and Topogun for the modeling section. The model was then textured in Substance painter and finally rendered in Blender 3 with the help of the compositor.
This is the Blend.file That contains everything we created in our YouTube video. This is a packed Blend file and has been cleaned up. This makes sure there are no unnecessary files, materials, etc. Everything in the Blend.file is also organized into collections and named correctly.
