The Aviluminis noctilux, commonly known as the “Luminave,” is an intriguing bird that inhabits the distant planet of Lumina. It features a peculiar body measuring 10 to 15 cm in length and weighing 500 grams, which prevents it from performing flights. Its body, mostly devoid of feathers, has a dorsal region, wings, and the tip of its tail covered in bright blue plumage that emits light in the darkness of the night.

The feathers on the antennae have specialized structures that secrete a sweet and enticing scent to attract nocturnal insects and larvae. This prop is a redisgned water gun inspired by firefighters. The design is also remarkably similar to flamethrowers. I was inspired to make it an Overwatch weapon, but realistic. I imagined a character that used a WWII style flamethrower, but modernized of course.
I went a little far with the initial blockout and moving straight into the highres was a lot of cleanup work. I ended up making more fluid straps so the model was more dynamic. I struggled with cleanup when trying to make the game res, but in the end it got where it needed to be. I’m happy with how the floating geometry baked. The textures needed to feel like propane tanks or fire extinguishers. I got some great feedback to fix the contrast and realism, I’m very happy with where this has gone so far.
