My entry for the ‘ Low Poly Fantasy Island - Sketchfab January 2021 Challenge ‘
Used Blender mostly. Zbrush for modelling some details into the models. And because it had to come under 50k, I used the details of the models as Normals with the help of Substance Painter. All the models were textured in Substance Painter. Clouds would have looked better if Sketchfab had Volume Shader; but this [Dithered Opacity] came out to be fine too, I would say đ .

Made this floating island with a lighthouse in 5 days trying to be done by the end of the week. And I gotta say, this was a marathon. Were a lot of troubles with baking, making fine details. If I had more time I would probably did separate bakes, but not this time. So, about the model: itâs a handpainted lowpoly with baked map from a highpoly. Triangles count: 27,5K. I was going with anime style (Miyazaki movies) and for reference I used artworks of Jim Shore (âBenatrex - Shorelightsâ), youâll notice the lighthouse that I recreated.

I was aiming for a Warcraft look (as in Frozen Throne, not necessarily WoW) with limited resolution hand painted textures.
Glow FX were originally done as billboard planes, flickering was achieved by randomly rescaling them; the little bat and moving candle flames were animated by shifting UV - as these techniques are currently unavailable on Sketchfab I edited them out and left a static model with no billboard tracking.
