Quick test using my latest photogrammetry rock textures. Rather than capturing full 3D rock scans, why not build a tileable texture and use it to displace meshes and create rock formations? That way all your rocks share the same texture, which can save an incredible amount of memory. Furthermore the results are still pretty realistic! You could even imagine creating a modular set of planes, and then just apply a different texture/displacement and make a totally different environment in seconds. These assets were generated from scans of beach pebbles and stones I picked up on the shore between Plouguerneau and Roscoff, in France. I did not specifically select extraordinary samples, but rather tried to go for a broad diversity of colors and shapes in order to create an interesting pack.
Each prop in this bundle comes with .fbx, .obj and .dae formats, and is available in 5 different resolutions:
LOD0: 15k tris - 4096x4096 textures (albedo and normal maps)
LOD1: 5k tris - 2048x2048 (those are the ones visible here!)
LOD2: 1.5k tris - 1024x1024
LOD3: 500 tris - 512x512
LOD4: 150 tris - 256x256
