Did a scan of one of our company shirts for a quick project. This is the first time I've combined two sides of a soft-body scan - cloth tends to be somewhat floppy. To flip the shirt without messing up the fold pattern, I made a sort of cardboard sandwich I could press together. I also overexposed the shots to improve the scan. The cleanup wasn't too bad. Even after deleting points from the platforms from the dense cloud they still made their way into the mesh a little. Ended up taking those out in Max, then smoothing things over in ZBrush. I also used ZBrush for the decimation and unwrap, and was really happy about the results. I like Max's peel feature, but UV Master in ZBrush goes so much faster and gets rid of all the overlaps even if the result is bent a little. I also still need to find a faster way to patch up seams. There was one towards the “south" side of the shirt that I had to a 2nd channel unwrap -> bake -> photoshop -> bake to ch1 -> mask into texture approach. The 3D model presents a digital twin of a theatrical costume for a play by A.N. Ostrovsky. The garment was modelled by using historical block patterns, 2D scans of textile materials and 3d scans of contemporary actors. Anthroscan, Clo3D, 3dsMax, PixPaint and SubstancePainter software programs were applied.
The authors of the 3D model are Aleksei Moskvin and Mariia Moskvina (Saint Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design).
The authors thank prof. Victor Kuzmichev (Ivanovo State Polytechnic University), faculty members and students of Ivanovo State Polytechnic University and their colleagues from Ivanovo State Museum of Local History named after D.G. Burylin for providing data required for 3D modelling.
