Reupload, cause I added seagulls (very important) Made this floating island with a lighthouse in 5 days trying to be done by the end of the week. And I gotta say, this was a marathon. Were a lot of troubles with baking, making fine details. If I had more time I would probably did separate bakes, but not this time. So, about the model: it’s a handpainted lowpoly with baked map from a highpoly. Triangles count: 27,5K. I was going with anime style (Miyazaki movies) and for reference I used artworks of Jim Shore (“Benatrex - Shorelights”), you’ll notice the lighthouse that I recreated. This model is a concept made to represent a space filled with water that one can relax in. This first year project was to design a stereotomic form and it’s ground keeping in mind material, human experience, as well as atmosphere. I chose to incorporate water in my model and hence designed a form that is submerged within another form full of water. I then decided to continue the pattern of nesting into my ground as well. I chose to use glass in order to create an invisible feel that lets people feel as if they are floating in space. As a person moves up, the ground space is lesser, signifying increasing solitude and focus due to lesser interaction with the outside world. All these elements combined guarantee a more focused, deliberate human experience in the space.
