And here's the plasma rifle I made for the Elite. It was harder to make than I thought. The organic shapes in this gun were quite difficult to model for some reason. I guess I'm not very good at making organic 3D models, but that just means I need to do more of this stuff. I'm definitely not done making organic looking halo guns and characters! I created this model based on references from the actual movie props and some amazingly faithful replicas.
The geometry is relatively light weight for use in game engines. The counter animation is geometry based, so it can be used dynamically and adressed by code.
Complete with 4K PBR textures.
My motivation for this piece came from rewatching the Aliens movies. I took this as an opportunity to learn Substance Painter and figure out how to bake maps for a more complex model like this.
It’s also always interesting to learn a few things about design in general and about the object you’re researching in specific.

This is my first time making 3D character art, so it took long to make this model. I was never satisfied with the body and textures of the Elite, so I was constantly changing and adding things. After the Elite was finally finished, I decided out of the blue that the Elite needed a plasma rifle. Then I had to model that gun too, which also took a million years…
However, it was the most fun personal project I’ve ever done, and I learned so much from it! I will definitely be making more character art in the future.
The alien in question is a Covenant Elite Zealot or Sangheili Zealot. I’m a huge fan of Halo and I was shocked to realize I’ve never done 3D Halo stuff before. So I chose to make an HD remake of the classic Halo CE elite zealot, with some of my own changes here and there.
