A low poly model of the stormtrooper blaster, mostly based on A New Hope rather than Battlefront’s RotJ version, textured in Substance Painter. Not detailed enough for a 1st person view, but great for full body distance! I’d price it lower but sketchfab’s minimum is $3.99- I’ll bundle it into my upcoming stormtrooper if you want both.
The RotJ version’s biggest difference is the different barrel grip design and no techy pieces attached to the left side. ANH also has a lot of variation, partly because those techy pieces fell off some of the props, partly because they just used mismatched parts in general.
Aside from being slightly simplified (eg. I have a smooth wire instead of 2 curly wires to save on polycount, there is no trigger to avoid clipping—although many screen-used ones in ANH also have no trigger!), I also made a conscious change to add back in the one missing grip from the left side of the barrel in ANH where there was a bayonet attachment and a row of holes instead. Got together with a bunch of my buddies one morning and we all took tons of photos (1780) while another friend flew a drone over and around the arch to get the above photos (another 1739).
Here’s a screengrab that shows all the camera angles we captured, including the drone shots:
The arch is over 24 meters (80 feet) tall and it’s right in the middle of a high traffic intersection, so it presents many challenges, and I’m not even talking about all the trees around it.
It’s my first large-scale scan and I hit so many walls with getting it to come out well, largely because ZBrush has a 50 million polygon limit. Anyway, this is the first of many.
