A tin of paint I created to act as complimenty asset for my main 3D Modelling University project, need to add a few more complimentary assets such as screwdrivers, hammers, paint buckets etc. when I add it too my final project. Modelled in Maya, textured and rendered in Substance Painter. As a student any tips, criticism and comments on improvement would be really appreciated. For some reason I couldnt get the Substance Painter to let me import a JPEG label onto the model, if anyone has a soloution or a link to a tutorial that would address this issue please comment. I’ve been working on a game with my team (Cotton Cloud Productions) called The Chopping Block. It is a horror theme and we wanted to have some distinctive rooms within the level, I thought a creepy painting would help add to the spookiness of the game (especially since it will disappear and reappear in another room with creepy laughter). I created the model, UV’s, and texture art. This is one of my favorite pieces I’ve done so far. I need to practice making World of Warcraft environment models, (wanna work for Blizzard so bad!), so I had to take a stab at making this house myself!
My goal was to gain experience with this fast workflow. I actually threw down a bit of paint in blender while very roughly blocking in and UVing the house, to get me an idea of what I could get away with tiling. Then I opened the simple texture in Ps to arrange the islands and actually paint it nicely. Back to blender, re-alligned the UV islands, then created a second set of UVs, and baked a couple maps for light mapping. Mixed those in Ps, and figured out how to get UV sets into Sketchfab. Done!
I think I finished this in only 9 hours! Fast for me! Stoked to get experience doing things for quick flat models.
