La presenza di artigli ricurvi ci suggerisce infatti che l’originaria collocazione dell’aquila doveva essere su una sfera, oggi non più esistente, sostituita da un capitello rovesciato di incerta datazione. Grandi e lunghe ali spiegate – con funzione di supporto del libro liturgico – mettono in mostra il bellissimo piumaggio, minutamente descritto con gusto calligrafico, che ricopre tutto il rapace.
