I stumbled upon this beautiful fir tree concept created by Juliya Revina and instantly wanted to turn it into a hand painted model. I really enjoyed creating this asset, the shape is very unique, the colours are wonderful and the little mushrooms are as cute as the tree itself. Stumbled upon this from a past project originating from the development phase of a game I worked on called Flicker Fortess. I stumbled across an amazing concept of this bugbear by Jaemin Kim and thought it’d be the perfect opportunity to make a full character from a concept. I started by sculpting the whole body in ZBrush and then retopologized using the Zsphere tool. I then went on to unwrap him in 3ds Max, texture him in Substance Painter, finally using Maya to rig and do the simple breathing animation.

It was quite a challenge to make this scene in less than a week while working a full-time job. Despite having to go to bed way too late every night, in order to finish it by the end of the week, I feel pretty good about the work I’ve done. Some might say it’s an interesting color choice for a guitar amp, and I would agree. To be honest it was a complete accident. I was experimenting with different finishes when stumbled upon a deep blue plastic material in my library which later became the base for material that made it to the render stage. The original idea was to make it orange as they usually are, but every time I compared the two my heart leaned more and more towards the blue one. Se here we are. Blue Orange amp.
