Phần bụng ấm chứa nước được thiết kế to ra có những gợn lồi lõm được gắn vào là vòi rót, gạt ngang với thanh đồng cắt khúc dôi ở giữa bụng ấm. Nắp hình răng cưa tinh tế với đường nét mạnh mẽ, độc đáo, phía trên có một lỗ tròn như một chiếc khay nhỏ để đặt chiếc ấm pha trà nhỏ có quai bằng mây. Chiếc ấm được làm tinh xảo với kiểu dáng giống như một chiếc cúp bằng đồng, có hai quai để bưng hai tay một cách trang trọng. Theo tiếng Nga, Samovar có nghĩa gốc là “tự đun sôi”. Thời trước, để đun sôi nước trong chiếc ấm đó, người ta gắp than hồng, quả thông, gỗ vụn bỏ vào một ống đặc biệt có tác dụng như chiếc bếp nhỏ bên trong Samovar để giữ nhiệt.
