Hello! This is my entry for the #StorybookChallenge. Since I was a kid I always dreamed of being an astronaut and I read a lot of books about space. For this challenge I teamed up with my girlfriend, who is a professional childern's book illustrator, to recreate my desire to touch the stars. With this entry we wanted to pay homage to all the authors and illustrators that make all the childrens dream big with their books. All the modelling was based on her illustration, created on Maya and then hand painted on Substance Painter by me. The model represents Mustafar, a fictional small terrestrial planet of the Star Wars saga which is characterized by a strong volcanic activity due to tidal effects caused by the close proximity of two gas giant planets. The volcanic activity of Mustafar recalls that of Io, the innermost of the Galilean moons of Jupiter. As Mustafar, Io is characterized by an extreme geologic activity (with more than 400 active volcanos) resulting from tidal heating from friction generated in its interior because of the close proximity with Jupiter and the other Galilean moons. In recent years, thousands of extrasolar planets have been discovered. Among these, an emerging class is that of highly volcanic exoplanets, also referred as lava worlds, magma ocean worlds, or super-Ios. An example is 55 Cancri e, a terrestrial planet probably covered in lava and orbiting around the star 55 Cancri.

The model is an artist’s view of the atmosphere of WASP-76b, an ultrahot giant extrasolar planet about twice the size of Jupiter which orbits very close to its star, WASP-76 (a class F7 star), at a distance which is almost double the size of the Sun. As in the case of our moon, WASP-76b always shows the same face to its star because it rotates exactly once every time it orbits around its star (its rate of spin is synchronized with its rate of revolution). Scientists recently discovered that the face of the planet facing the star reaches temperatures so high that the iron is vaporized. As a result, when iron vapor is transported to the cooler side of the planet due to strong winds, it condenses in the atmosphere producing liquid iron rain. The scene describes this new and unexpected phenomenon.
