  SY Carola 3D Model 2023-12-22
SY Carola is possibly the oldest seagoing steam yacht in the world. It was built in 1898 by Scott & Sons of Bowling at their shipyard on the north banks of the River Clyde. At 70ft in length, Carola is of steel construction with teak decking and deckhouse, and now has two masts.

Built for personal use by the shipbuilder’s family, Carola was used as a yacht during the summer months and when not being used for pleasure by the family, it would take groups of senior yard staff on Clyde cruises. In winter it would have served as a tender and tug at the shipyard.

By 1964 it was sold to a private owner, before being purchased in 1981 by a Sussex firm and used for corporate hospitality.

Carola became a part of the Scottish Maritime Museum’s collection in 1994.

The model was created as a part of ‘Scanning The Horizon' 3D digitisation project.

This is all that remains of SS Rifle, one of the earliest surviving examples of a small pre-fabricated screw steamer in the British Isles. Rifle was purchased by the Locheil Estate in the 1860s for use on Loch Arkaig, ferrying goods, passengers and mail between the isolated dwellings around the loch. As well as being a practical vessel, Rifle was also used for pleasure, often carrying shooting parties. The boat was laid-up in the 1930s, and whilst being scrapped, sank and lay buried until removed by the army after becoming a hazard to wartime vessels working from the pier. Rifle was blasted away from the pier, losing the bow in the process. Despite being submerged for over half a century, it was raised in 1990. Although in a very fragile condition, Rifle’s propeller is a well-preserved example of an early design. The model was created as a part of ‘Scanning The Horizon’ 3D digitisation project. A sci-fi/Cyberpunk style 3D printer, using the latest laser guided nano-robotic technology. I used a rotor showing different frames for the holograms but they might be a little choppy to some, I still have a lot to learn about animation. special thanks to @Matt_Rafferty for help with rigging I was inspired by the fabricator in subnautica. The number 1 attraction of Rome is the Colosseum; the large amphitheatre that housed 65,000 spectators in Roman days. Gladiators battled each other as well as wild animals in the Colosseum’s arena. In the giant ruins of the Colosseum, you can visit the stands, the arena and the underground spaces of the largest Roman amphitheatre. Because of the huge number of visitors, it is highly recommended to book tickets to the Colosseum in advance, which is considered one of the seven modern wonders of the world. Visited Colosseum as a tourist during 2023 Easter weekend just with handheld camera. I wish to get back there with more serious gear. Just interior model.
