L’hôtel du Lac est un ancien hôtel de style brutaliste construit entre 1970 et 1973 selon les plans de l’architecte italien Raffaele Contigiani.
Selon la CNN, l’hôtel du lac, a fortement impressionné le créateur de Sars Wars, dont une large partie du tournage a été faite en Tunisie.
L’influence de l’Hôtel du Lac à Tunis, en forme de pyramide renversée, se verra plus tard dans le véhicule fictif Sandcrawler utilisé par les Jawas de la planète désertique Tatooine dans le film.
L’édifice en pleine période glamour accueillit plusieurs célébrités tel que James Brown. Mais les bons moments se sont estompés. L’hôtel a fermé ses portes en 2000 et s’apprête à être démoli, de même les travaux de démolition semblent être imminents. L’architecte et militant Sami Aloulou ne cesse pas de lancer des cris d’alarme pour sauver un hôtel souverain batit pour se rebelle contre les formes architecturales traditionnelles et coloniales.
