In 1937, the Czechoslovak Army announced a competition for a new light tank to replace the LT 35. The Plzen Skoda has applied for participation in the competition and as its competitor — “ČKD”. In the tests that took place in the spring of 1938, the tank — type identification TNHPS produced by “ČKD” won. The tank was created under the leadership of Russian engineer Alexei Surin, who found himself in Czechoslovakia after the October Revolution of 1917.
