The most famous pyramids are the Egyptian ones — huge structures built of bricks or stones, some of which are among the world's largest constructions. This photo was taken during fieldwork at the site by Edgar Hewett, Director of the School of American Archaeology in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This carved stone monument is from the Maya site of Quirigua, Department of Izabal, Guatemala (UNESCO World Heritage site). Working in collaboration with Guatemalan archaeologists and site management, our team of heritage and 3D specialists are recording thestela and carvings as well as terrain and site landscape details.
