Gliding animation for a nice lightweight rhamphorhyncus model, a Jurassic pterosaur that ate fish, squid, etc. Gave it a gannet-inspired colorscheme in Substance Painter.
The gliding animation is the only one that comes with this model. The skeleton is very basic, and may require new skinning or rigging to try to do any more ambitious movements- I modeled it in flight, I don’t know if the geometry will support it landing and walking without some bad clipping. 3D scan of a skull and mandible of the mosasaurid Platecarpus coryphaeus. He was an aquatic predator during the late Cretaceous, living about 81–85 million years ago. Mosasaurids are members of the order Squamata and are therefore relatives of lizards and snakes. Fossils of Platecarpus are found predominantly in North America, but were perhaps also occurring in Europe, Africa & New Zealand.
This skull of Platecarpus coryphaeus will be on display in the upcoming exhibition “CineSaurs” that opens on October 19, 2021 at the NHM Vienna.
