The tongue’s upper surface is covered by taste buds housed in numerous lingual papillae. It is sensitive and kept moist by saliva and is richly supplied with nerves and blood vessels.

I made this model in 2016, to practice modeling shapes and creating procedural materials. It was decent work at the time, but I revisited it in 2022 to give it a proper mesh/material cleanup and see how much I could improve it. This is the result!
Some of it could definitely still take a little more attention, but overall I’m happy with where it ended up. It’s a cool ode to the infamous Piranha Plant from Super Mario Bros.
