Originally a swamp, it was later drained and used as a naval dockyard. Following the construction of the Cathedral in 1727, it became the site of some of the city's grandest mansions. An atmospheric diving suit (ADS) maintains surface pressure internally, protecting a diver from underwater pressure and eliminating the need for decompression. Treasure hunters developed early atmospheric diving suits to dive on shipwrecks. Commercial diving and oil drilling industries resurrected ADS in the 1960s. The JIM suit, named for test diver Jim Jarrett, was the first modern-day commercial ADS. It weighed 910 pounds and operated to 1,500 feet. The Navy began using ADS after testing the JIM suit in 1975. During the Edo period (1615-1868) the Tokugawa shogunate enacted a four-class system. The warrior class was the hegemonic group, and armour and other related items were displayed to demonstrate their power and prestige. Armour during the Heian, Kamakura, Muromachi, and Momoyama periods was utilitarian, meant to protect its wearer from injury in battle. Japanese medieval warfare often involved a series of duels where combatants would call out their lineage and rank, offer a challenge and then agree or decline to fight. In this situation the identity of the combatants would be clear. The interior of a single-room subterranean air shelter in North Yorkshire. The room is located beneath a small former AA and spotlight installation on the coast. Buildings like this are usually kept shut, but the hatch on this one has been broken open and it is clearly being used for drinking etc now.
