A musket is a long gun that appeared in the 16th century and was the most used defensive weapon in a fortress such as Fort Lillo. The walls of a West European fortress were designed for musket fire. During the 17th century, muskets used matchlock ignition (gunpowder was ignited by a slow-burning piece of cord). Only around 1700, they are replaced by flintlock muskets. A bandolier contained a small poach for bullets, several wooden tubes with the right amount of gunpowder and a metal flask with ignition powder. Pontus, God of the Black Sea, is represented in the left, rising from the waves of the seа, looking up towards the goddess. With the right hand is leaning on a tree and with the left one on the prow of a ship. The piece was discovered in Constanta in 1962. The relief dated from the first half of the 2nd century A.D.
