  "HourPost" Sci-fi Digital Newspaper Rack 3D Model 2024-05-12
This is a small prop for urban sci-fi scenes. I came up with the idea as a science fiction version of a modern paper newspaper vending machine. Although newspapers vending machines have been being phased out for some time due to the transition to the internet… I thought this concept would work well as something to fill in an urban environment. The rack was modeled in blender and textured in substance painter. The screen animation uses 16 planes for each frame, cycled through using shape-keys. The screen animation graphics were created within blender using keyframe animation, the principled BDSF shader, and the compositor 3d model

This piece was a texture/poly count optimization study, and was inspired by the computers in DOOM 2016. I just wanted to see how much detail was achievable with textures alone. I ended up with an extremely low poly model that I am really happy with! A sci-fi holographic computer I made that is loosely based off the IBM 5100. Originally created for Second Life, shown here in Metalness PBR. Textured in Quixel Suite and Photoshop, modeled in Blender with the HardOps plugin. The hologram is static for now, it normally has an animation (in other engines) but I am still trying to figure out a good way to have both a smooth interpolated rotation of the rings on the bottom and a hard transition of frames on the main screen (only way I can currently think of is to use the frame-by-frame method here but that would require way too much mesh data for smooth rotation).
