The Cathedral of Cefalù (Italian: Duomo di Cefalù) is a Roman Catholic basilica in Cefalù, Sicily. Got together with a bunch of my buddies one morning and we all took tons of photos (1780) while another friend flew a drone over and around the arch to get the above photos (another 1739). Here’s a screengrab that shows all the camera angles we captured, including the drone shots: The arch is over 24 meters (80 feet) tall and it’s right in the middle of a high traffic intersection, so it presents many challenges, and I’m not even talking about all the trees around it. It’s my first large-scale scan and I hit so many walls with getting it to come out well, largely because ZBrush has a 50 million polygon limit. Anyway, this is the first of many. My daughter found a dead hornet (Vespa crabro) body in our warehouse, and I decided to give this scan a try. A couple of years ago, hornets made a nest in our yard, and it was pretty much impossible to walk around and not bump your head into one of these. In terms of scans, the wings are the hardest parts, I’ve remodelled parts of them in Blender, but the work is far from finished. I’m impressed with what Metashape did with the scanned material. Model created with Agisoft Metashape decimated with InstantMeshes. Shot with Canon 90d + 100mm macro lens.
