My project of gun used during the American Civil war. I liked its organic shapes and lines. It was pretty challenging to model using only reference photos and basic dimentions. Original gun had percussion configuration and took so long to reload so it was easer just to change a cylinder or have a spare pistol.
It is a game ready gun with about 21k tris with bullets and one 4k texture set.

Here’s my latest project, a Smith & Wesson 66-8 .357 Revolver. This has a good amount of parts to it, so to have everything bake out right I had to bake by mesh name. I learned two things - that baking by mesh name is case sensitive, and trying to use an .fbx before it’s fully exported just doesn’t work. It corrupts your exported file. Just so you know.
With the textures, I used a combination of materials and masks to mimic dirt, grime, and soot from repeated use. I had to make about 7 alphas for all the height details.
I had to adjust some materials so it’d read better as metal instead of stone, as well as adjusting the damage information and swapping out some normals that I wasn’t satisfied with. Time to call this model finished for now. This piece is of a haunted wagon concept I tweaked to be more light-hearted and to be able to play with different methods of coloring in Substaance Painter. I started in Maya by modeling and UV each individual piece. I then transferred the low poly model into Zbrush to sculpt in the wood grain textures and other small details. I then ported both the low and high poly meshes into Substance Painter, baked, and colored. I created my own alphas for the pumpkin faces within Photoshop and brought them over to Substance Painter.
