The Yakovlev Yak-141 ( NATO reporting name “Freestyle"), also known as the Yak-41, is a Soviet supersonic vertical takeoff/landing (VTOL) fighter aircraft designed by Yakovlev. The design was initially designated the Yak-41M by the Soviet military. Once testing commenced, and the two prototypes began accumulating numerous world class records, it became necessary to invent a designation for use in the west, as the name Yak-41M was classified. The designation Yak-141 was selected, and it was by this name that the aircraft became known to western allies, though officially the aircraft's designation remained Yak-41M within the Soviet military. This UAV has 4 rotors/motors but 3 ducts. For long distance forward flight I feel 3 ducts and four motors is the most low profile design, thus efficient. Two of the forward motors are used for forward flight, but all 3 for vertical take off and landing. 1 cowling at the rear contains 2 props and 2 motors creating contra rotational propeller movement. Ducted fans aren’t widely used although now technology is catching up and allows for the total thrust of these motors to be 43kg. The use of removable 6s Lithium Polymer battery pods on either side of the unit allows for the power required. The total weight snips just under 25kg which includes the 6kg payload....phew. The frame has to be made from Carbon Fibre not GRP due to weight restrictions. This sleek one-man fighter was shown in the first episode of the third series, then sat in the cargo bay spockblocking at EVERY POSSIBLE OPPORTUNITY. The fanboys weren’t stupid, it was obvious this gorgeous girl was going to make a comeback to blast the chin horns off some baddies one day…
Model is in .FBX format with UV mapping and rigging, you an see the bones in the “Model Inspector” screen.
I have made this to match the CGI version with a complete smooth cockpit and extra details around the side blasters. The feet aren’t quite symmetrical, there is a small rectangular detail on the left side but not on the right.
I have deliberately made the landing gear flaps on the chin different from the TV show because the on-screen version doesn’t close air tight. The Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) is a United States Air Force (USAF) sixth-generation fighter initiative with a goal of fielding a “family of systems” that is to eventually supersede the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor. A manned fighter aircraft is the centerpiece program of the initiative and has been referred to as the F-X or Penetrating Counter-Air (PCA) and is to be supported by unmanned “Loyal Wingman” platforms.
This is my concept of NGAD prime (1st concept) with manned fighter supported by AI piloted drone swarms. Rudder is deployed only for landing and low speed maneuvers. Smooth line and sharp edges lower radar echo and make this fighter stealth.
