Donnington Castle is a ruined medieval castle, situated in the small village of Donnington, just north of the town of Newbury in the English county of Berkshire. It was founded by Sir Richard Abberbury the Elder in 1386 and was bought by Thomas Chaucer before the castle was taken under royal control during the Tudor period. During the First English Civil War the castle was held by the royalist Sir John Boys and withstood an 18-month siege; after the garrison eventually surrendered, Parliament voted to demolish Donnington Castle in 1646. Only the gatehouse survives. The site is under the care of English Heritage and is protected from unauthorised change as a scheduled ancient monument. In Kameoka city near Kyoto the castle is not there anymore but the walls remains. In fact they have been rebuilt to restore some of the former beauty of this location.
I captured 3 walls sections, the interesting thing here is the technique used to build the wall. Instead of well joined and polished stones here huge rocks are pilled up and smaller rocks fill the space between. It was suposedly designed to allow to hear soldiers cllimbing the wall as they would eventally let a small rock fall.
This third wall is a low wall before a gate to enter the castle ground. This wall as fewer and big stones taht fit well together. Some stomes are recycled from other building as testify the carving tah tcan be seen in many stomes used in this castle. Oda Nobunaga ordered this Castle contruction as a base for the invasion of Tanba region.
