The Northern Saw-whet Owl (Aegolius acadicus) is one of our smaller owls. It is a relatively common denizen of forested areas in the province, but is rarely seen because of its nocturnal habits. By day, it roosts silently amongst dense conifers, until it is discovered by other birds at which point a cacophony of mobbing calls may ensue to try to dislodge the predator. One can sometimes entice a pair of saw-whets to stay in the neighbourhood with a nest box. Small mammals, especially deer mice, beware, as you are the owl’s main prey. Revisiting this project I cleaned up some geometry, laid out new UVs, and gave the model new textures. I added dirt, fingerprints, and dust to the textures with substance painter generator effects.
