An example of a PDA-type unit used by, in this case, a worker repairing and investigating a damaged section of a city on Ganymede after Terran orbital bombardment. These PDAs are ultimately controled by the central unit, which houses the basic authentication module, a small battery, a reasonably powerful processing unit, and a few displays (most of which can be swapped). It has 3 expansion ports. In this example, the bottom port is taken up by an user-interface module, featuring a variant of a chording keyboard, as well as a joystick. The top port is taken up a screen, which also contains addtional RAM modules and a bigger battery. The side port is connected to a stiff ribon cable which is connected to a radiation meter, which is important, as the nuclear bombardment of Ganymede left a large number of sections of the cities dangerously irratiated. A sci-fi holographic computer I made that is loosely based off the IBM 5100. Originally created for Second Life, shown here in Metalness PBR. Textured in Quixel Suite and Photoshop, modeled in Blender with the HardOps plugin.
The hologram is static for now, it normally has an animation (in other engines) but I am still trying to figure out a good way to have both a smooth interpolated rotation of the rings on the bottom and a hard transition of frames on the main screen (only way I can currently think of is to use the frame-by-frame method here but that would require way too much mesh data for smooth rotation). This model is a 1:1 replication of the original. All dimensions, angles, and curves are the same as the real life counterpart. The shoe is subdivision ready with a base polycount of 56,640 polys per shoe. The mesh uses four texture sets, all at 4096x4096 resolution, with the following maps in use: Base Color, Metallic, Roughness, Normal. The base color map contains the transparency information.
There is an optimized, One Mesh version which has a lower polycount, 25,872 polys per shoe. This was achieved by removing small stitches and smoothing out the sole of the shoe
