I started creating the piece shortly after watching The Last of Us series. I Sculpted the bust in ZBrush, Retopologised and UV'd within Blender, textured him in Substance Painter and rendered the bust using Toolbag 4. I created the bust to demonstrate organic texturing inside of Substance Painter for WCG students and shared the files to allow them to practice the techniques for themselves. This huge sculpture stands in the middle of Bordeaux (France). When I walked by, I was stunned by this “half flat” sculpture, and shot it with my phone. I was realy impressed by the very realistic rendering, although most of the volume has been flattened.
Another feature worth noting : its proportions take into account the fact that the viewer is on the ground, so that the upper part of the head is much larger than it should be , to compensate for the perspective. This is a technique that has been know for a long time, (used by Michelangelo), but it’s interesting to see how it applies here.
