This is a model of an 18th Century English hanger sword that I made originally using RealityCapture. I’ve returned to my original model, retopologized it, reworked the textures, and cleaned it up in some spots that needed manual attention. I’m quite happy with the result, and look forward to incorporating retopology in to my workflow more frequently. The blade is in excellent condition, and the hilt is a finely crafted work of silver. Both maintain an almost mirrored finish, presenting an enormous challenge to capture through photogrammetry. The initial model turned out okay considering the conditions, but several parts of the model had issues with continuity of the normals due to the nature of the more random topology of the model RealityCapture produced. This results in razor edges looking rough and jagged, as well as the smooth mirrored surfaces appearing lumpy and unfinished. The goal of this project was to create from scratch a 3D video game environment with several props and realistic lighting. I chose to tackle transparency in my model a little earlier than the curriculum, so I did encounter several rendering issues with regard to transparency layers, however this project remains my favorite. I chose to model a sewer/bunker type environment with ladder, toolbox, and light fixture props. I think the whole environment is brought together nicely by the lighting both in the tunnels, and the sunlight shining down on the ladder 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 4608 polygons.
