In Kameoka city near Kyoto the castle is not there anymore but the walls remains. In fact they have been rebuilt to restore some of the former beauty of this location.
I captured 3 walls sections, the interesting thing here is the technique used to build the wall. Instead of well joined and polished stones here huge rocks are pilled up and smaller rocks fill the space between. It was suposedly designed to allow to hear soldiers cllimbing the wall as they would eventally let a small rock fall.
This third wall is a low wall before a gate to enter the castle ground. This wall as fewer and big stones taht fit well together. Some stomes are recycled from other building as testify the carving tah tcan be seen in many stomes used in this castle. Oda Nobunaga ordered this Castle contruction as a base for the invasion of Tanba region. Its builder may have been one Maccon Sioda MacNamara, chieftain of Clann Cuilein (i.e. the MacNamaras). He died before the castle was completed which happened under his son Sean Finn (died in 1467). At around 1500, Bunratty Castle came into the hands of the O’Briens (or O’Brians), the most powerful clan in Munster and later Earls of Thomond.In 1956, the castle was purchased and restored by the 7th Viscount Gort, with assistance from the Office of Public Works.He reroofed the castle and saved it from ruin. The castle was opened to the public in 1960, sporting furniture, tapestries and works of art dating to around 1600.
