On this day in 2009, the bitcoin network was created when Satoshi Nakamoto mined the starting block of the chain, known as the genesis block. I am proud to present my latest 3D model: a bust of Dorian S. Nakamoto, a man whose name is similar to the Bitcoin inventor. The texture of the bust is inspired by an engraving technique used on one dollar bills. The model also includes a fractal blocks layer representing the true essence of Satoshi. The story:
One night a snake, looking for food, entered a carpenter’s workshop. The carpenter, who was a rather untidy man, had left several of his tools lying on the floor. One of them was a saw.
As the snake went round and round the shop, he climbed over the saw, which gave him a little cut. At once, thinking that the saw was attacking him, he turned around and bit it so hard that his mouth started to bleed. This made him very angry.
He attacked again and again until the saw was covered with blood and seemed to be dead. Dying from his own wounds, the snake decided to give one last hard bite then turned away.
The next morning the carpenter was surprised to find a dead snake on his doorstep.
Moral of the story:
Sometimes in trying to hurt others, we only hurt ourselves.

This is my submission for the Airship games art jam. The theme is ‘Growth’, so I went in a bit of a different direction to most, and a direction that’s closer to home.
I’m hoping I’ve done the emotion justice here. I wanted to try and capture a sense of gentleness, of a single moment of growth that is simultaneously ground-breaking but also fragile and vulnerable - the eggshell softly cracking.
I was directly inspired by Miki Bencz’ incredible techniques for creating 3D paintings - there’s a fantastic tutorial here: https://80.lv/articles/2d-sketch-in-3d-painting-techniques/ and his sketchfab is here: https://sketchfab.com/cordero
The main sculpt comes in at around 22k tris, all hand-retopologised, but using Bencz’ techniques involves duplicating the base sculpt a few times - hence the high tri count!
