This one started out as a test on virtual horizon on Sketchfab, and as a challenge to test out a somewhat convincing ocean animation with geometry. Note that I am not satisfied with the ocean movement and am still working on it, but I think the sense of distance (8000m) and atmosphere works decently. As an artwork the thoughts behind is simply to embrace nature, and to accept the notion that the absolute freedom is absolute loneliness. Made this floating island with a lighthouse in 5 days trying to be done by the end of the week. And I gotta say, this was a marathon. Were a lot of troubles with baking, making fine details. If I had more time I would probably did separate bakes, but not this time. So, about the model: it’s a handpainted lowpoly with baked map from a highpoly. Triangles count: 27,5K. I was going with anime style (Miyazaki movies) and for reference I used artworks of Jim Shore (“Benatrex - Shorelights”), you’ll notice the lighthouse that I recreated.
