This was done over the course of 9 weeks during the CGMA course: Stylized Character Arts for Games with instructor Weston Reid! The character blockout and sculpt were done in ZBrush, retopology in Blender and CozyBlanket, baking in Marmoset Toolbag 4, texturing in Substance Painter and 3DCoat, and finally rigged and animated back in Blender! The class was challenging, but I had a lot of fun and learned a lot! I’m super excited to apply what I’ve learned in future pieces! This time I wanted to simply enhance the stylised look with some complimentry lighting, and a nice vibrant sunsent seemed to work a treat!
Beyond the basic light setup, I added a background to match my colour scheme and a shadowcatcher to grab those long end of day shadows. The Newton portable computer came out of the first results of Apple’s work on a miniature mobile device with a touchscreen and operated with a stylus.
