This is my entry into the Allegorithmic “Meet MAT 3D Painting Contest". I chose to do a Sci Fi inspired texture set. Using alphas i created the appearance that MAT is wearing a futuristic “Hazard Suit" which would be used to work around radiation, toxic waste, high heat or other dangerous areas 3D Model is ready to download for free
with 18 Texture files attached, this model contains 39546 polygons and 39679 vertices.

The main intention behind this gun was to make it look old, rugged and intimidating, combining these to give an old-school feel. The mechanism of this gun is similar to a modern minigun, the body holds the magazine on hooks which makes reloading a slow task. The style of holding the gun is tacky due to that it makes the gun a bit unstable for the user giving it a hard recoil momentum and an old-school feeling. The gun has two gauge meters one indicating the temperature and another one showing the amount of remaining bullets in the magazine. I wanted to try a colour scheme different from the basic steampunk colours (Golden/Brown), to make it look different from other weapons. This was an practice exercice I dide with my students at Ecole Aries (and I’m a month late for the submission, what a bad teacher I am !). Anyway, I created this model on #Maya and #Zbrush for modeling and sculpting, then I send it to #Substancepainter for the texturing part. I made some modifications on #Photoshop before the final export.

This rifle is the last weapon of my steampunk series and holds a dominant position in the project. Making the AK was a big challenge as it was tough to keep the look similar to the original gun and also get the steampunk feel overall, the best I could think of doing without altering the look, was to add extra attachments that give it a steampunk look and feel and using a warm colour palette with wear and tear effect on the body, clippers an exception, its brand new, lol!! Although it was a task to achieve the end product, I enjoyed the whole process as its one of my big time favourite assault rifle.
