My submission for a past Sketchwars theme: redo a classic…
My thought is that something went astray with the Thunderbird between 1963 and 1967. My 3D sketch is a proposal for a different aesthetic bridge between the lovely 1963 body style and the somewhat radical departure of 1967. This took 4 hours to do, completely done in 3D while immersed in VR using Gravity Sketch. I had 2D reference pictures in the scene, but all the ideation of the forms was done in 3D.
This is a non-traditional medium (skipping 2D) so I did a bunch of tweaking with post process effects to give it a more grainy textured paper/punchy colors/rendered look … minus the dabs of white gouache for highlights!

The BD-9001 Heavy Assault Tank or otherwise known in colloquial dialect as the Womp Rat, is a vehicle employed by the various criminal underworld factions as a siege and breakthrough tank.
Originally put to paper by an Imperial design bureau, the project was put on indefinite hold in favor of pursuing heavy walker proposals by Kuat.
Due to the actions of daring data thief’s and their brokers, the plans feel into the hands of the underworld market, and were subsequently purchased by wealthy pirate lords enthused by such a potential display of impractical armor and firepower. Thus owning and maintaining a BD-9001 was a flaunting display of wealth and power.

Most flying car proposals are pure sci-fi or represent some sort of compromise, they lack the functionality of either the car or the airplane - usually because they are trying to be an all-in-one solution. My idea is to split the flying car into parts: the people part, the flying part, and the car part - each gets to be good at what it does without compromising too much. This new form of the Bentley “Flying Spur” is more akin to a service like NetJets than a car lease. You don’t buy the car, you own pod with the seats. When you want to go somewhere, the car part autonomously drives you to the most convenient pickup point, the flying part grabs the pod, you fly to your destination where another car is waiting to grab your pod and drive you to wherever you need to go.
