However, this 3D visualization of a plant cell interior demonstrates some of the main organelles that can be found within a plant cell, namely the cell wall, vacuole, nucleus and nucleolus, ribosomes, rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER), Golgi apparatus, mitochondria, and chloroplasts. The organelles are suspended within a gelatinous fluid called the cytoplasm. The presence of chloroplasts within this model indicates that this particular plant cell would be found within a green part of the plant.

Plants convert sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide into energy and oxygen through photosynthesis. This process is the basis of all life on earth and happens right here in the chloroplast!
The chloroplast is characterized by a double membrane which forms the chloroplast envelope. Within the large fluid-filled space known as the stroma, float starch granules, lipids, RNA and chloroplast DNA. The light-dependent reactions involved in photosynthesis occur within the stacked thylakoid chambers, which contain aqueous lumen. The thylakoid stacks connect via the lamellae to form an integrated functional unit. The photosynthetic pigment chlorophyll, responsible for making plants green, is embedded in the membrane of the thylakoids.
