The explosion occurred at an altitude of 530 meters. The power of the explosion was 14 kilotons in TNT equivalent. 70% of the city’s buildings were destroyed. A fire started in an area of more than 10 square kilometers. About 80,000 people were killed in the explosion, and about 100,000 were injured, burned, and radiated. More than 80% of the victims were civilians.
In 1898, the radioactive properties of the atom was discovered. A hope for creating a super-powerful source of energy that could change humanity forever emerged.
