By day, it roosts silently amongst dense conifers, until it is discovered by other birds at which point a cacophony of mobbing calls may ensue to try to dislodge the predator. One can sometimes entice a pair of saw-whets to stay in the neighbourhood with a nest box. Small mammals, especially deer mice, beware, as you are the owl’s main prey.
