It is always surprising to see works in which the fall of the fabrics on the bodies is represented with mastery. This is one of them, the work of the well-known Raffaelle Monti.
It was created as an allegory of the political and artistic reunification of the Italian kingdom, a resurgence that Monti tries to capture and announce through a beautiful piece. It was one of the 3 most seen works at the London International Exhibition of 1862, which brought together various technological advances and art exhibitions from 36 different during several months.

This is the allegory of the rhône river, after my model of the saône allegory.
« Icy nos deux fleuves se baisent, commençant leurs vieilles amours » as the engraver Israel Silvestre writes in the caption of an engraving depicting the confluence (then at Ainay) around 1650.
Located on an exceptional site designed by the meeting of the Rhône and the Saône rivers, Lyon (France) has often used as an emblem the representation of the meeting - or the carnal union - of the two rivers that surround it.
