Tête de Voltaire dit à l’antique Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828) PF005942 Houdon exécuta plusieurs portraits de Voltaire qu’il put modeler d’après nature la veille de sa mort. Ce buste en marbre est une belle réplique de la première version qu’il réalisa du buste de l’écrivain, représenté tête nue et sans vêtements à l’égal d’un penseur antique. Variante sans perruque ni indication de vêtement, ce buste fut découvert en 1871 par le sculpteur Adolphe-Victor Geoffroy-Dechaume (1816-1892), « dans les décombres d’un monument public » incendié lors de la Commune de Paris.
